Meet Our Hosts, The Legends
Marcus Fizer
Marcus Fizer, an Inkster, Michigan native, is a former professional basketball player renowned for his exceptional skills on the court. After a stellar collegiate career with the Iowa State Cyclones, where he earned consensus First Team All-American honors in 2000, Fizer entered the NBA as the fourth overall pick in the 2000 draft, selected by the Chicago Bulls. Throughout his NBA career, Fizer played for the Bulls, Milwaukee Bucks, and New Orleans Hornets, showcasing his scoring prowess and versatility as a power forward. Post-retirement, he has remained active in the basketball community, contributing to the sport’s growth and development. You can now find Marcus working as the CEO of Slip Guardians and mentoring young basketball players.
Brent Curvey
Brent “Big Play” Curvey, a Houston native, carved his legacy both on the football field and in the culinary world in the state of Iowa. Despite initially dreaming of a career in basketball, Curvey shifted his focus to football, driven by the goal of reaching the NFL. Choosing Iowa State University (ISU) for its early offer and the promise of immediate playing time, Curvey excelled in the Big 12, earning All-Big 12 honors and national recognition as a defensive tackle. His journey continued with professional stints in the NFL, CFL, and even returning to Iowa with the Iowa Barnstormers. After hanging up his cleats, Curvey channeled his passion for entrepreneurship and food, opening Coaches Kolaches in Urbandale. Drawing parallels between football strategy and restaurant planning, Curvey, has transformed Coaches Kolaches into one of Iowa’s most successful Kolache establishments, showcasing his enduring work ethic and determination.
Dave Larson
Dave Larson is co-host of In the Cye of the Storm and bounces in and out of the other 3 Beards Media podcasts as a pure fan. An Iowa State alum and longtime ISU football season ticket holder, there are very few football or basketball games he has missed. Dave is the senior Human Resources leader for a major Iowa beverage company and when not watching the Cyclones enjoys distance road running where he listens to many podcasts.
